Orthopedics focuses on conditions involving bones, joints, ligaments, and movement. From fractures and luxations to cranial cruciate ligament injuries and developmental diseases, orthopedic cases require proper planning, biomechanics, and long-term management.
One thing I learned early is that orthopedics is not simply about “fixing bones.” Stability matters, but biology matters just as much. There is actually a famous concept in orthopedics that says it is “more like gardening than carpentry,” because healing still depends on blood supply, tissue preservation, and time.
Orthopedics is also physically demanding in ways I did not fully expect. Long surgeries, standing for hours, lifting patients, holding positions during procedures, and maintaining focus the entire time can be exhausting. It challenged not only my knowledge, but also my endurance, patience, and mental stamina.
